Using PanPastel       Techniques        Substrates

As with all new mediums it will take time to get used to working with PanPastel Colors.
Experiment! You will find that you can create a myriad of new marks and textures.

Here are some basic techniques to get started:

Blocking In       Layering      Mixing    Blending And Highlighting
Gradations Of Color  Multiple Loading       With Pastel Sticks

BLOCKING IN

Block in large areas of color in seconds using Sofft Big Oval or Angle Slice sponges for underpainting, backgrounds and toning paper.

LAYERING
Build up multiple layers and thin veils of color without flooding the tooth. To fix colors between layers, use a conventional pastel fixative.

MIXING
Dry-in-Dry – mix colors directly on the working surface like paint

BLENDING AND HIGHLIGHTING
Blend colors easily together with Sofft Tools.

GRADATIONS OF COLOR
It’s so easy to achieve gentle gradations of color - blending seamlessly from color to color.

MULTIPLE LOADING
Load Sofft Tools with two or three colors for striking decorative effects.

You can load the tools with multiple colors, multiple times. Load the palest color first.

WITH PASTEL STICKS & MIXED MEDIA
While PanPastel Colors can be used on their own, try combining them with pastel sticks, pencils, acrylics, watercolors and other artist’s media for a variety of techniques.
